iLEAD Antelope Valley Exploration embraces the whole child, focusing on both social-emotional and academic skills. After our beginning-of-the-year assessments and in lieu of the traditional parent-teacher conference, the learners, facilitators, and parents/guardians collaborate annually to create an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP). ILPs help to guide instruction and social-emotional aspects for each learner. Everyone works together to reflect on, monitor, and make adjustments to the ILP as needed.

The primary goal of the ILP is to ensure that each child reflects on their own achievements, both academic and social-emotional, and identifies areas in which they need to improve and evaluate their progress toward those outcomes, starting at a basic level when they are younger and improving their ability to self‐assess over time.

Throughout the year, facilitators and learners meet to look critically at what they have accomplished, reviewing assessment data and setting forth new goals when their original goals have been accomplished. A portfolio is maintained that showcases the learner’s reflections throughout the school year.

At iLEAD AV Exploration, we are committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all our learners. During September, Suicide Prevention Month, our goal is to ensure that individuals, friends, and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help.

Our Family Guidebook includes the following Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Policy:

The Governing Board recognizes that suicide is a major cause of death among youth and should be taken seriously. In order to reduce suicidal behavior and its impact on learners and families, the Director(s) or designee have developed preventive strategies, intervention and postvention procedures. The purpose of this policy is to protect the health and well-being of all learners by having procedures in place to prevent, assess the risk of, intervene in, and respond to suicide.

In order to initiate access to available pupil mental health services, you may contact the following mental health provider: Los Angeles County Mental Health Helpline: 800-854-7771.

A minor who is 12 years of age or older may consent to mental health treatment or counseling services if the minor is mature enough to participate intelligently in the outpatient services or counseling services. The professional person treating or counseling the minor is required to consult with the minor before determining whether involvement of the minor’s parent or guardian would be inappropriate. These service providers can bill Medi-Cal as appropriate.
