Learner Spotlight: Isabella H.

Isabella, a 1st grader at iLEAD AV Exploration, is an outstanding, tenacious, and positive lifelong learner who loves our field trips and arts and crafts project. Her mom, Mrs. H, helped Isabella answer our Q&A. Mrs. H said, “Being part of the iLEAD family has been a true honor, and we’ve cherished every moment of this fantastic experience.” Let’s get to know Isabella and her family!

Why did you choose to enroll at iLEAD AV Exploration?

iLEAD’s commitment to academic excellence and your outstanding reputation.

What is your best memory of your time at iLEAD AV Exploration so far?

One of my most cherished memories this far has been the field trip to the poppy preserve. It was an unforgettable experience filled with laughter, joy, and learning shared with both my teachers and friends.

Who is a strong iLEAD AV Exploration influence and why?

Ms. Woodman and Ms. Ramey have truly been pillars of support, demonstrating unwavering care and encouragement every step of the way. Their constant presence and genuine warmth have made me feel not just valued but truly embraced and welcomed at all times.

Why did your family decide to homeschool, and what does it allow you to do that you couldn’t do at other schools?

Homeschooling has offered us flexibility with scheduling, to create a better learning routine that helps our child grow and thrive in every aspect of life. Homeschooling has also allowed us to incorporate our values and inputs in our child’s learning journey.

Can you name a favorite project you’ve worked on at iLEAD AV Exploration? What made it memorable?

My favorite project so far has been the spring flowers arts and crafts project.

Who would you like to give a shoutout to at iLEAD AV Exploration? Who has helped you and how?

We would like to send a heartfelt thank-you to the entire iLEAD family for their dedication, hard work, and continuous support in fostering student growth and learning. Your outstanding commitment to excellence and passion for education truly make students thrive and create everlasting memories.

We are so glad Isabella’s family is part of our community at iLEAD AV Exploration. Join us in celebrating Isabella!

California State Testing (CAASPP Testing): Please Complete Form

Our state testing, also known as CAASPP, is quickly approaching. State testing will be taking place in grades 3-8.

The weeks of May 6 and May 13, we will be conducting our California State Testing. You will have the option for your child(ren) completing testing either in person (on site) or virtually (at home).

  • In-person testing will take place on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of those weeks.
  • Virtual testing will take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each of those weeks.

In Person:

  • Tuesday, May 7 (ELA CAT)
  • Thursday, May 9 (ELA PT)
  • Friday, May 10 (CAST/Makeups)
  • Tuesday, May 14 (Math CAT)
  • Thursday, May 16 (Math PT)
  • Friday, May 17 (All makeups)

Virtual:

  • Monday, May 6 (ELA CAT)
  • Wednesday, May 8 (ELA PT)
  • Friday, May 10 (CAST/Makeups)
  • Monday, May 13 (Math CAT)
  • Wednesday, May 15 (Math PT)
  • Friday, May 17 (All Makeups)

Due to the crucial importance of learners taking their time and doing their best work, learners will be able to complete only one test per day. Each test is estimated to take about one to two hours to complete when done thoroughly and completely. If your child is testing on site, please be available to pick up your learner as soon as they finish testing. Learners should bring something quiet to do when they are done and should bring their own headphones, if possible.

If you opt to have your child complete their state test at home, the following guidelines need to be followed:

  • Learner must be free from all distractions and in a separate and quiet room
  • There must be NO interruptions throughout the duration of the test
  • Their camera will remain ON at all times (there is no ability to turn off camera on the secure browser testing platform)
  • Home internet must be reliable/strong

Please fill out this form indicating whether your child(ren) will be testing at home or in person. This will help us plan accordingly for your child’s testing schedule.

If special education learners will miss SAI sessions due to testing, please let Mrs. Neely know.

Lastly, please read over the attached parent letter regarding state testing.

iSUPPORT Meeting: May 1

Our iSUPPORT meetings will continue to be on Zoom on the first Wednesday of each month at 12:30 PM. We hope you will join us on May 1!

Our final meeting of the school year will be June 5.

What is iSUPPORT?

A community of family volunteers who support our school. We may call on iSUPPORT members to volunteer in the classroom, help with curriculum collection and checkouts, assist with family events, be a welcoming committee to new families, advertise for us by word of mouth in the community, assist on field trips, be a resource to new homeschool families, or help with planning of special events. iSUPPORT also helps to keep families updated on what is taking place within our iLEAD AV Exploration family. It is a great way to connect with each other. We value our volunteers!

CAASPP Testing for 3rd-8th Grades: May 13-17

Every year, California students participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). When combined with other measures, such as grades, class work, and teacher observations, these tests give families and teachers a more complete picture of their child’s learning. Your child will take the following tests, depending on their grade level or instructional program:

  • Required for grades 3-8: Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA) and Math.
  • Required for grades 5-8: California Science Test (CAST).

The Smarter Balanced Assessments are computer-based, and the California Common Core State Standards are tested.

The testing window is May 13-17, 2024.

You are an important part of your child’s education. To make sure your child feels comfortable taking tests, you can do the following:

  • Explain to your child that these tests are tools to help them learn and that they should not be anxious or scared.
  • Explore the practice tests with your child so they can become familiar with the platform and setup of the tests.
  • Remind your child that you and their facilitator want them to try their best and are there to help every step of the way.

You will receive your child’s results at or before the beginning of the next school year. The results will identify where your child is doing well or needs more help so you can better support their learning at home and facilitators can better support their learning in the classroom.
