Schoolwide Learner Outcomes: Empathetic Citizen

iLEAD is excited to continue our Schoolwide Learner Outcomes series. Our October focus is Empathetic Citizen. This article has several tips to help you cultivate empathy in your child: “Cultivating Empathetic Citizens: Nurturing Compassion and Understanding in Your Child.”

What are Schoolwide Learner Outcomes?

At iLEAD, we believe that education should extend beyond traditional academic knowledge. Our purposeful approach revolves around the iLEAD Schoolwide Learner Outcomes, a collective vision that encapsulates our aspirations for each individual’s education.

The iLEAD Schoolwide Learner Outcomes serve as our compass, guiding us in shaping each child’s educational journey.

In the course of a child’s career with iLEAD Schools, our learners will engage with a relevant and rigorous curriculum that will prepare them for success personally and professionally.

The following are the expected Schoolwide Learner Outcomes that our learners develop:

iLEAD by being a/an…

Lifelong Learner

I am a self-directed learner, focused on personal growth and development.

Empathetic Citizen

I seek to understand and appreciate what others are thinking, feeling, or experiencing.

Authentic Individual

I am true to myself, my personality, values, beliefs, and principles.

Design Thinker

I am a creative, imaginative individual who explores original ideas, takes risks, and develops innovative solutions that I share with others.

Individualized Learning Plans: October 4

iLEAD Antelope Valley embraces the whole child, focusing on both social-emotional and academic skills. After our beginning-of-the-year assessments and in lieu of the traditional parent-teacher conference, the learners, facilitators, and parents/guardians collaborate annually to create an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP). ILPs help to guide instruction and social-emotional aspects for each learner. Everyone works together to reflect on, monitor, and make adjustments to the ILP as needed.

The primary goal of the ILP is to ensure that each child reflects on their own achievements, both academic and social-emotional, and identifies areas in which they need to improve and evaluate their progress toward those outcomes, starting at a basic level when they are younger and improving their ability to self‐assess over time.

Throughout the year, facilitators and learners meet to look critically at what they have accomplished, reviewing assessment data and setting forth new goals when their original goals have been accomplished. A portfolio is maintained that showcases the learner’s reflections throughout the school year.

Meetup at Underwood Family Farms: October 2

We will be holding our first meetup on Wednesday, October 2, at Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark. Homeschool families from our other iLEAD schools will also be in attendance. If you’ve registered, come join us from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and bring a picnic lunch!

Registration has ended for this event. Keep in mind that we also have our meetup at Gilchrist Farm in Santa Clarita at the end of October. This is a similar trip but a smaller version.
