Whole-Child Education
At iLEAD AV, we emphasize whole-child education. This is an approach that focuses on the development of the whole child, including their emotional, social, physical, and intellectual well-being. We provide a holistic approach to learning, placing equal importance on academic and non-academic areas, such as social and emotional development, physical fitness, and creativity. We create a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages children to be active participants in their own learning and development.
This approach to education recognizes that children have different learning styles and abilities, and that a one-size-fits-all approach to education is not effective. Whole-child education focuses on personalized learning that takes into account each child’s strengths, interests, and needs.
In our whole-child educational environment, our facilitators serve as mentors and guides, rather than just instructors. They provide opportunities for learners to engage in hands-on learning experiences, collaborate with others, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
A whole-child education has been shown to benefit children in many ways, including improving academic achievement, supporting greater social and emotional well-being, and increasing creativity and innovation. Our approach helps children develop the skills and attitudes they need to become lifelong learners who are capable of adapting to the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

The CA Meals for Kids mobile application is free and makes it easy for families and caregivers to find summer and after-school meal locations. Summer meals provide children with access to essential nutrition during school closures throughout the summer break. Find sites by physical location, custom map, county, city, ZIP code, or partial site name. Download the CA Meals for Kids app from Apple’s App Store, Google’s Play Store, or Microsoft’s app store, and visit the CDE 2023 Summer Meals Service Sites web page for more information on locations where children can receive free, nutritious meals during school vacation and off-track periods.

Why We Use the Terms ‘Facilitator’ and ‘Learner’
What’s the difference between a teacher and a facilitator?
A teacher and a facilitator are both educators, but they have different roles and responsibilities in the learning process. While a teacher’s role is more focused on imparting knowledge and instructing students, a facilitator’s role is more focused on guiding and supporting learners in their learning process. To help learners master core academic content, a facilitator may use a variety of techniques, such as group discussions, projects, and inquiry-based learning.
What’s the difference between a student and a learner?
In a traditional educational setting, the role of the student is to attend classes, complete assignments, and pass exams to demonstrate their knowledge and competency. A learner, on the other hand, is someone who is engaged in the process of acquiring knowledge and skills. The term “learner” implies a more active and self-directed approach to education, while “student” implies a more passive and dependent approach. A learner takes ownership of their learning process, seeking out information and experiences that will help them achieve their goals, while a student typically follows a more structured and prescribed approach to learning.
How do facilitators support learners at iLEAD AV?
At iLEAD AV, our fully credentialed facilitators challenge our learners to master core academic content by providing real-world problems to solve, which helps learners connect what they are learning to real-world applications and increases their motivation to learn. Our facilitators encourage collaboration, foster creativity and innovation, provide support and guidance, and create a safe and supportive learning environment. They provide emotional support, celebrate successes, help learners learn from their mistakes, and support them as they dive into deeper learning. As a result, our learners not only master core academic content but gain crucial skills for success in life, including critical thinking and problem-solving, collaboration, effective communication, self-directed learning, and a growth mind-set.
