Honoring Our Veterans

Veterans’ Day is a public holiday held on the anniversary of the end of World War I (November 11) to honor US veterans and victims of all wars. Veterans’ Day differs from Memorial Day in that is honors and celebrates living service members as well as the fallen. Below are some ways that you can show appreciation to service members:
  • Attend local Veterans’ Day events (for example “Let’s Laugh AV” at the Palmdale Event Hall on November 11th from 5:00 – 9:00 pm)
  • Fly an American Flag
  • Visit a VA Hospital
  • Verbally thank a service member
  • Write a note or card and send it to an active service member (https://amillionthanks.org/letter/)

Operation Gratitude Writing Activity

A message from Mr. Ortega

It’s that time of year again: Veterans Day is around the corner!

As you may know, I always have my class write letters to veterans and active-duty members in our military. We will be doing this next Wednesday, November 6. If you wish for your class to participate, please turn in their letters in a manila envelope so I can drop it off at the post office by no later than Thursday, November 7.

Attached are the guidelines from Operation Gratitude. I am also including a template that I have used in the past for my class and lower grades for letter writing.

Thank you,

Mr. Ortega
