Important Notes: Breakfast and Lunch at iLEAD AV

Menu: Please see here for the current menu. Note: no lunch on Fridays.

Breakfast Schedule: Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. only.

Packed Lunch Guidelines: Parents, please send your learners with a lunch that does not need to be warmed up. We are unable to warm or heat up food or give hot water to the learners. This is a safety issue, and we appreciate your cooperation. Although we understand you’re very busy, being asked to warm lunches prevents the Care Team from supporting all the learners and the lunch area. Please send non-heated items to school for lunch. Soup can be heated at home and stored in a thermos. Thank you for your understanding.

Free & Reduced Meal Applications: Please submit your free/reduced lunch application to the front office as soon as possible. Lunch balances must remain under $20 this school year. Please make payments in the front office.

Prices: Learners who do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals must pay $3 for lunch and $2 for breakfast.

Pay for Lunches Online: iLEAD AV has partnered with My MealTime, a fast, secure online service for making credit or debit card deposits and monitoring your learner’s lunch account. Download the mobile app!

Health and Wellness Policy: Our learners are active and exerting energy outside, so they need nutritious refreshments, such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and as much water as possible. We’d like to share with you our Health and Wellness Policy as a helpful reference and to support you and your learner in making good food choices for nourishing the body and mind.

A Reminder about Food Deliveries: Parents, please inform your learners they are not to order food from Postmates, Grubhub, Uber Eats, DoorDash, or any other delivery service to the school. Parents can bring in lunches to the front office and we will call the learner up to the office to pick up their lunch.

Update to the Valet Process

Dear iLEAD AV families,

We have had some challenges during our valet time. To make the process smoother, we’re having learners line up on the field with their facilitators so they’re ready to go. Parents can come between 3:30 to 3:45 p.m. to pick up learners. Beginning February 18, all learners still here after 4:00 p.m. will be walked to Extended Care. Please note that Extended Care is $3 per hour per learner.

Please take time to review our valet process for drop-off and pick-up.

  1. In the mornings, the valet gate opens at 8:00 a.m.
  2. In the afternoon, the valet gate opens at 3:00 p.m.
  3. Many of you requested the opportunity to walk on-site to pick up your learners in the afternoon. Please park on 22nd Street West, walk onto the valet lot using the exit gate, and present your valet card. You will be able to walk to the classroom to pick up your learner/learners.
  4. Please remember the valet traffic flow pattern. There are no left turns to enter or exit the lot.
  5. To help us continue to be good neighbors, please do not block the driveways for Miller Elementary School or KinderCare on 22nd St. West. To assist us with that, our leadership and maintenance teams have designed a new flow pattern to get more of our parents inside the valet area.

Pickup is from 3:30 to 3:45 p.m. Learners who have not been retrieved by 4:00 p.m. will go to Extended Care, and accounts will be billed at $3 per hour per learner.

Additional Procedures

The owner of the shopping center asked all parents and staff to stop parking there and posted signs warning us that cars would be towed, so that is no longer an option.

We are using our lot on 22nd Street West for valet before and after school. The lot is very large.  As a result, we no longer have valet in front of the school.

To access the lot, please turn right on K-4 from 20th Street West. You will pass Miller Elementary School, drive right around the bend, and make a right into our lot. At the start of the day, your learner will be greeted and escorted onto campus.  At the end of the day, your learner will be summoned and escorted to your car. Please be sure to post your valet card on the dashboard daily. Once your learner is safely in your car, you will exit the lot and make a right, which will take you to Avenue K. We will have cones, signs, and iLEAD team members on standby to support you and the learners.

In the mornings, the valet lot will open at 8:00 a.m. In the afternoon, it will open at 3:00 p.m. for dismissal. If you are walking your learner to class in the morning, we will have a parking area in the lot just for you.

Our Goals

Our planning and preparation are consistent with our three Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals. We’re looking forward to sharing how we’re meeting each goal throughout the school year, and we’ve listed the goals below:

Goal 1: Provide optimal conditions of learning through providing basic services, implementation of California State Standards, and access to an academic and educational program.

Goal 2: Provide all learners with a rigorous, creative, and broad curriculum to maximize academic achievement and college and career readiness.

Goal 3: Generate active engagement between parents/families and the school and connections with the community to promote learner achievement and communication among all stakeholders.

Exploring iLEAD Antelope Valley Culture: Habit 4 of the 7 Habits

Editor’s Note: This is one in a series of articles on the pillars of iLEAD Antelope Valley’s educational philosophy and approach.

“In the long run, if it isn’t a win for both of us, we both lose. That’s why win-win is the only real alternative in interdependent realities.”

— Dr. Stephen Covey

This week, we’re examining Habit #4: Think Win-Win. Someone with a win-win mind-set sees life as a cooperative arena, instead of a competitive one. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions, and means agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying.

Why is this habit so vital to us at iLEAD Antelope Valley? Because none of us lives in a vacuum. Every day, we interact with other people who have their own sets of passions, motivations, and priorities. So how do we successfully navigate the world as an individual among many other individuals?

Dr. Stephen Covey held that a person or organization approaching conflicts with a win-win attitude possesses three vital character traits:

  • Integrity: sticking with your true feelings, values, and commitments
  • Maturity: expressing your ideas and feelings with courage and consideration for the ideas and feelings of others
  • Abundance Mentality: believing there is plenty for everyone

Developing a win-win approach is also beneficial to our growth and maturity. As we seek to have win-win interactions and relationships, we develop our humility, better recognize the humanity of those around us, develop long-term perspectives, and also learn to become more assertive.

There are four steps that can help the win-win process be truly beneficial for all involved:

  • See the problem from others’ perspectives to understand their needs and concerns
  • Identify the key issues and concerns involved
  • Determine what results could make for a fully acceptable situation
  • Identify options for how to achieve those results.

Developing a win-win mind-set is an important step toward being a more collaborative individual, which is at the heart of what the iLEAD Antelope Valley learning model is all about. Win-win is certainly a balancing act, but when we strike that balance everyone benefits.

Join us next week as we explore Habit #5: Seek First to Understand, Then Be Understood.

iLEAD AV Highlights of the Week

Kindergarten Presentation of Learning

Ms. Guzman and Ms. McReynold’s kindergarten class demonstrated through drawings, visual displays, and speaking during their Presentation of Learning. The driving question was “How can we work from A to Z to make the alphabet come to life for me?”

Kona Ice Day!

The learners enjoyed another fun day of Kona Ice. Thank you for supporting our school!

7th Graders Read The Giver

Ms. Tucker’s 7th grade class is reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. The learners are really enjoying the book. They said it helps them discover for themselves what is right as they discover more about how society works and that life is not complete without both good and bad experiences.
